The virtual world looks quite advanced from the pictures you posted, if they do this right it can be much better than Second Life (which is difficult to use in China anyway, due to the Great Firewall). I hope they keep their focus on China though, and don't try to compete with Linden Labs outside China.

One thing I would like to know is whether it is possible to import objects from external applications like 3D Max. That's one of the weaknesses in Second Life in my opinion. If this is not possible they should at least consider to offer an offline tool to build objects.

Really impressive what these guys from HiPiHi are doing. This could well be another nightmare for a western web company operating in China.

I know its too early to say this and Second Life is not yet localized, but I see HiPiHi in line with Baidu....another local company that will be more successful then the western web giant.

I see details about the graphics; but does anyone know/had experience with the quality of the audio? The sonic immersion? Ambient environments and such? I'm very curious because this is an aspect of virtual worlds which has generally been neglected or is altogether unconvincing in some cases. Thanks!

@Torkey - There's a reasonably good soundscape, from what I heard. I had headphones on during a 20-minute or so demo. Water effects are nice; atmospherics change with time of day (birds, crickets); helicopter sounds during helicopter rides, as one would expect. I wouldn't say it was better than SL in that respect. I'll wait until I dick around on the Beta and let you know if you'll be so good as to remind me!

WatKirby

No nudity or sexual content.

And a very vague paragraph on the rules concerning currency. Will people be able to make money there or not ?

Either way, I personally don't care much to trade in freedom for shinier features. I'll stick with SL. Fascism isn't my thing.

Tya

SL for the win!!! I am in your blog pissing you off.
